Struggling - Please Please Help Patch 16 Version 11

This concerns applying patch 16 to HPQC 11.  The below was taken from the readme file.  I need to know EXACTLY what this means :

"IMPORTANT: To prevent loss of files that were added or changed in the qcbin application folder or the site administration repository, before you install the patch, you must make sure they are saved in the correct paths.

Some history on the situation.  2 or 3 years back we had a thirdy party vendor set up HPQC for us.  At that time we did not have a testing department or any resources dedicated to supporting or managing HPQC.  However, the third-party did some advanced setup/linking with SAP TAO, Solution Manager and HPQC.  What they created in HPQC we do not want to lose.  There maybe nothing we just don't know.  Recently we have established a new testing department and are wanting to use HPQC as our main software.  We need to use Sprinter 11.52 so we want to apply patch 16 to our installation (we are way out of date, thing we are on patch 4).  Our main concern is that we do not affect what had been done by the third party if at all possible.

I've been digging and digging.  We could not find the qcbin folder.  I even suggested to our infrastrucure resourse (who has no knowledge of HPQC either) that maybe we need to look through the server in different locations and he finally found it.  So keep in mind it is the blind leading the blind here.  I contacted HP and am still watiing to hear back from them but this is the explantion I received.

Basically that means that the installation files need to be in the Install folder from ALM, also if you add or modify files there, the qcbin application folder needs to be inside the Install folder."

Can someone explain very in very dumbed down terms exactly what this means?  Thanks so much for your help.
