Dealing with Releases & Cycles in Waterfall & Agile

Hi,

I'm looking for people having experience with setting up Releases & Cycles in HP ALM for both Waterfall and Agile.

The way we use ALM here is by having multiple projects stored in a single QC project. We have this set-up for multiple QC projects. We currently have about 40 running projects spread over about 15 QC projects.

We are currently working with a set of Releases that correspond to the organisations Releases and the Cycles are defined as the different Test Levels within the organisation (Unit Testing, Integration Testing, System Testing,...). In fact, this set-up is our common denominator across all QC projects and this Release identification along with the identification of Test Levels (Cycles) allows for a standard reporting.

Now, a couple of projects are moving towards an Agile approach and although the current set-up can also work for Agile approaches, they have the specific requirement to use Sprints as the Cycles instead of Test Levels. The problem is however that in the current set-up, it is possible that a two distinct running projects reside in the same QC project but not necessarily with the same Sprint identification (e.g. Project x is currently working in Sprint 5, while Project y has only started Sprint 1). The above would be possible if we don't use the full functionality of Releases & Cycles, being that we do not take the start and end date of the Cycle into account. But that's exactly what we do want to use however.

Has anyone encountered the same challenge before?

Regards,

Ralph
