What did you update in the dbid.xml file? There is
- the location of the repository
- the connection string for the db server
- the name of the db server (separate from the connection string)
- the db server password
There are always more details for an error. If they didn't display on the screen then look in the SA log file. The path to the log file can be found in Site Admin on the Servers tab.
What db software/version were you using in the source environment, and what are you using in the destination environment?
Did you make a full backup of the project database, copy the backup to the destination environment, and then do a restoration of it from within the db software?
