Yes, thats correct! You can save the dbid files into your windows desktop or accessible folder location. When you restore it, dbid will be updated in respective location where the file system is (which is specified in DBID).
iI don't know if you are doing an upgrade or OS change. If you already have dbid file in Linux server you can copy the existing dbid using a Linux - FTP utility (or mount commands)
