The above suggestions are really good, so indeed you could try to implement them in your environment.
Just note that your heap size should not exceed the half of the available RAM on the ALM server (e.g. if you have 16 GB of RAM, then the max heap size should be no more than 8 GB). If you are having more than 50 active projects, you could also contact HP Software Support and ask them for fine tuning recommendations about environments with such amount of actively used projects. Regarding the activities that were performed before the crash, you could check the SA log files (they will be very usefull if they are in debug mode) and the JBoss server.log file (of course, if you are on JBoss). The default location of the server.log file is C:\ProgramData\HP\ALM\jboss\server\default\log folder.
